I haven’t always thought a nighttime routine was important, especially because I’m young. I ALWAYS went to bed with makeup on..and would take it off in the morning. (VERY BAD FOR YOUR SKIN!) But, the more I started watching makeup videos, and paying attention to “beauty gurus” (Jaclyn Hill, Casey Holmes, Kathleen Lights..etc…you can see that post here) I noticed that they paid attention to skin care, and they had a lot of advice on what was good for their skin type and what different brands have to offer. So over the past couple of years, I’ve been working to up my skincare game to keep my skin healthy and clear!
I’ve tried some expensive products, most of which I didn’t think worked very well.. especially for the price. The products I use are a combination of high end and drugstore, so hopefully you can find something for any budget! Because lets face it, money doesn’t grow on trees!
I always take my shower at night. This is just personal preference. I hate getting up in the morning…so I would prefer to stay in bed as long as possible. Plus, I like to let my air air dry instead of blow drying it. Showering at night helps with this!
Before I shower, I remove my makeup with Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser, and cotton round. This removes my eye makeup easily while keeping my eyes moisturized. (My picture ahs Equate dry skin cream, which I read was dupe, but I’m going back to Ponds when it’s gone 😊) Then I use the Garnier Micellar water to remove the rest of my face makeup.
*I used to use the Micellar water on my eyes as well, but I found that there is some alcohol in it which caused my eyelids to dry out.
It is so important to move your makeup at night. I never used to when I was younger, but it helps prevent breakouts and makes your skin healthier.
After I remove my makeup I hop in the shower and rinse my face. Next I use the Garnier Skinactive Sulfate Free Foaming Face Wash to remove any extra makeup residue. I love this cleanser. It’s gentle, has no smell, and leaves your face feeling clean. I have repurchased this again and again because it’s so good! You can’t beat the price for such a great product.
The next product I use each day is the Murad Acne Clarifying Cleanser. It is a little pricey, but you don’t need to use a lot and the bottle lasts a long time. I’ve had my current bottle for 4 months. This has a cooling sensation after it’s rinsed off, which I like, and it has helped keep any acne I may have to a minimum. I have also heard that the Nutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser is a dupe for this, if you want to save some money and try that first!
2-3 times a week I use the Clinique Exfoliator. this is personal preference, depending on your skin. I would recommend using some type of Exfoliator to get rid of the dead skin cells or any dry skin. It will also help keep your skin smooth for makeup application.
After my shower, or right before bed, I use the Garnier Skinactive Gel Face Moisturizer. I used the Clinique moisture surge before I got this, and they work the same for me. So I would personally go for the cheaper version 😊 I will sometimes use a serum on top of that depending on my mood. I like to keep it simple and not layer a ton of products on my face.
Then it’s bedtime!
I have a good mixture of high end and drugstore, but all of these work well for me. My skin has been great, and I’ve been using these all for almost a year.
