I think we all know how difficult finding a holy grail foundation can be. There are SO many on the market for all different skin types, and all different prices. I know I’m always trying to find the cheapest option for the best quality, because lets just be honest, I’m all about saving money! I also know that sometimes with makeup, you have to splurge to get what you want.
I found that watching a lot of YouTube videos (see some of my fave channels in this post!) especially with people who have a skin type like mine can be helpful. It was helpful for me, especially when I was starting out with makeup. There are so many makeup tutorials and reviews, so I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a new product to try! Especially if it’s expensive..you can save yourself some time and money!
I have oily skin, in my t-zone, with pretty big pores. The difficult part is I sometimes get dry patches on my face, which makes some matte foundations look cakey. To help with this I ALWAYS moisturize before primer and foundation. I have a few foundations that I consider my holy grail for my skin type. I’ve found both high end and drugstore options that I love. I like having a mixture of both so that depending on my budget at the time, I know I will be able to get something that works!
**I do want to mention I always set my foundation with a powder and usually bake a little bit under my eyes, forehead and chin. This helps me stay matte longer!
Holy Grail Foundations
- Milani Conceal and Perfect: I’ve only had this foundation for about 2 months, but it is awesome! Right now this is my everyday foundation. It is a medium to full coverage foundation that lasts all day. I initially bought it because I didn’t want to pay the price for the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, and I wanted to try something new! The coverage is VERY similar to the double wear, and I would say it is almost a dupe! I do have to set it, but I set all of my foundations with a setting powder. It is creamy, so I recommend being lighthanded and build up the coverage. This will help you to avoid looking cakey! I will definitely be repurchasing.
- Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless: this foundation is a new found love of mine. I waited a long time to jump on the band wagon. First of all, the price point is awesome. I’m a thrifty kind of girl and this foundation is just that! The quality is awesome as well. I would say this is a true medium coverage foundation, but you can build it up. So this is great if you want lighter coverage too! Sometimes I go for that look on the weekends. I also love that this foundation dries down matte. There is no tacky feeling when it’s dry. I think this is such a hard quality to find in foundation. The shade range is great as well, so you’re bound to find your shade!
- Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation: This foundation is my Holy Grail. It is pricey, but worth every penny. I first discovered this while watching Casey Holmes (see her channel here!!) and she has oily skin as well. This foundation stays all day…and then some. This is definitely a full coverage foundation, it dries down completely matte. This doesn’t have a pump, so I will get one from MAC which fits the bottle perfectly. I have bought this foundation several times and will keep repurchasing! So if you want to splurge I recommend this! It has never let me down.
- L’Oréal Infallible ProMatte Foundation: L’Oréal has had this foundation out for a few years now and I have repurchased it several times! They don’t have a huge range of shades (only 12 on Ulta’s website) but because some brands offer products to lighten or darken foundation, shade range limitations don’t bother me too much. This foundation is a medium to full coverage, and dries down matte. It also stays all day, which I love. It’s a little more expensive for drugstore, but worth the money. I would highly recommend this if your on a budget!
What are some good foundations that you’ve tied for oily skin? I’m always looking to switch it up and try something new, so I would love suggestions!!
